Log in to the Windows instance

After purchasing and launching a Windows-type instance, you can choose to log in to the instance for related management. Depending on whether your local operating system and instance can be accessed from the Internet, you can use different login methods in different situations. For details, refer to the following table:

Type of Local OS Linux instance associated to public IP Linux instance not associated to public IP
Wndows VNC login
Remote desktop connection
VNC login
Linux VNC login
rdesktop login
Mac OS VNC login
Remote desktop login

Login preparation

Create an instance, and obtain an account and corresponding password

  • Administrator account: Administrator
  • Password: For a JD Cloud instance, there are two ways to obtain the password
    • When creating an instance, if you select to Set Later, the system will send the default password via SMS and email. You can use the default password for verification when logging in to the instance.
    • Select to Set Now, and enter a custom password in the password setting textbox. If you forget the password, you can use the Reset Password function to reset the password. This function is only available for instances at "running" state.

Log in to the instance with VNC

VNC login is a method provided by JD Cloud for users to remotely connect to an instance through a web browser. If no remote login client is installed or it is out of service, the user can connect to the instance through VNC login, observe the instance status, and conduct basic instance management operations through the instance user. Scenarios for VNC login include at least the following:

  • View the startup progress of the instance
  • If you cannot log in via client SSH or mstsc, you can log in to the instance via VNC
  1. In the operation column of the Instance List, click [Connection] to connect to the Windows instance through VNC.
  1. Enter the system login interface by clicking the Ctrl+Alt+Del command in the upper left corner:
  • Default username: administrator
  • Password: Instance password set when the instance was created for you

Note:

  • With the same browser, only one instance can be logged in with VNC at one time.
  • To normally log in via VNC, it is recommended to use a browser with a higher version, such as: Chrome, Firefox, etc.
  • File uploading and downloading is unavailable now.

If the local is Windows, you can log in to the Windows instance through remote desktop

To connect to a Window instance through MSTSC remote desktop, you must first ensure that the instance is associated to a public IP, and this sort of connection is allowed in the security group and network ACL rules. You can create a Windows instance on the JD Cloud console, and obtain a public IP: XXX.XXX.XXX.XXX

  1. Click the Start button on your computer and find "Run"
2. Enter the `mstsc` command in Run, and click OK to open the Remote Desktop Connection dialog box.
  1. Connect to the instance based on the public IP associated when the instance was created, and enter the username: Administrator, check Allow me to save credentials.
  1. After clicking Connect, enter the password to connect to the instance.
  1. CheckDon't ask me again whether to connect to this computer and click Yes.
  1. Successfully connect to the Windows instance you created on JD Cloud.
  1. If the login fails, please confirm whether a correct public IP address is entered, and check the configuration of instance associationSecurity group and Network ACL of the subnet where it belongs, to check whether the instance allows incoming traffic on port 3389.

If the local is Linux, you can use rdesktop to log in to the Windows instance

When the local system is Linux and you need to log in to a Windows instance remotely, you need to install the corresponding remote desktop connection program, usually using the rdesktop client.

Before logging in, please check the configuration of Network ACL of the Security group where the instance locates and its subnet, and make sure that the instance port 3389 is open. After installing rdesktop, log in to the instance by running:

rdesktop -u administrator -p <instance login password> <instance public IP address>

The local is MAC and Windows instances can be logged in via remote desktop

Taking Remote Desktop officially provided by Microsoft, the example illustrates how to remotely log in Windows instances by local MAC OS. Please go to HockeyApp to download Remote Desktop and confirm if the current system version supports the same before download.

  1. Run Microsoft Remote Desktop and click Add Desktop.
  1. Enter Public IP Address of windows instances in the pop-up window and click Add to add and save the address.
  1. After addition is completed, the instance can be found via the Public IP Address in “saved Desktop”, click the icon, and enter user name and password. The default user name of Windows instance is administrator. Then, click Done to connect instances.
  1. After the first connection, the instance icon intended for connection can be directly found and selected or connection again. Click Connect in the window setting icon, enter login information and connect.
