Windows Remote Prompt encountered an authentication error, and the required function is not supported

Problem phenomenon:

Remote Desktop connection shows: An authentication error occurred, and the requested function is not supported. As shown in the figure:

Problem causes:

On May 8, 2018, Microsoft released a patch update that changed the default setting of windows from "vulnerable" to "mitigate". This update patch requires both the server side and the client side to be updated before remote connections can be made. When the cloud virtual machine is not updated with this patch, but the user client updates the patch, there is an inability to connect to the server remotely.

Solution:

  1. Client enters gpedit.msc when running to enter the Local Group Policy Editor.

  1. Select [Computer Configuration] > [Administrative Templates] > [System] > [Credential Assignment] > [Encryption Oracle Fix] .

  1. Select [Enabled] and [Vulnerable] .

The problem also applies to remote login to the cloud virtual machine and then enter the password again (the problem of entering the password twice): Change [Encryption Oracle Fix] from [Not Configured] to [Enabled] , and set the protection level to [Vulnerable] .
